Can I still connect to an instrument and download my data if the batteries are dead or removed?

Yes. You can power your instrument through the patch cable if connected to a computer via a USB or USB-C port.  External power can also be supplied through the patch cable via the terminal block.  If the battery is dead, remove it before downloading the data.
